cautiously and peeked over. i saw two shooters in between a sedan and a black mercedes benz suv. they were taking cover behind the suv, shooting down my block. they were shooting about 70 to 80 yards down the street at officers. it was about six or so, maybe a few more, watertown police department vehicles. there were two shooters. while they were engaging in fire, for at least three or four minutes, they were also using explosives. and they had -- they were throwing explosives at the officers, what seemingly could have been grenades. i could feel those shocks and those explosions right outside and feel them coming into our apartment. after a couple of those explosions, they actually utilized another explosive device, which was much larger. from my window and my vantage point, i could see this device pretty closely, which looked similar to a pressure cooker bomb, which i've seen pictures of in the past week. so i actually saw them from about 35, 40 feet away in my bedroom window. they lit it and also threw it towards the officers. it did not come too close to the officers, but it did creat

sitting in his car and then they carjacked a car and police took after them, an s.u.v. the car chase ensued. the dis respect were driving through the western suburbs throwing explosives out of their car. they got to water town and the gun chase gun fight follows from that. the blackhat gets out of the car. he is shot and killed by police officers. he has an i.e.d strapped to his chest. they run over his body. then the white hat during this at this confusion, he escapes on foot in to the area of watertown. and that is when the police locked down the western suburbs. this morning, they are asking everybody to stay indoors. 24e6 shut down the transit systems, and they are asking people not to congregate at the bus stops or the subway stops waiting for the service to resume. but to go back home if they are already home and if they haven't left home, to stay home. not let anybody in. and there are reports that the police officer are now focused on and zeroed in on one building where they believe that suspect is. let's dip into the coverage locally. up in
mercedes suv. they held at gunpoint the driver of that car for 30 minutes before releasing the driver unharmed. at that point, there's a chase and authorities come into the town of watertown, as mike barnicle described it for us this morning. a bedroom community of 32,000 people and there was a shootout in the streets of watertown. suspect number one. the one we have come to known in the black hat. was on the ground. authorities found him with an ied. improvised explosive device on his person. pete williams has reported now that his brother, his own brother in fleeing in that mercedes suv ran over his own brother. eventually that suspect died at the hospital. but we can't overstate how remarkable it's been this morning, chuck, that there is a lockdown of a major american city. a shelter in place, as it is known. this is the kind of thing you hear about when there's chemical leaks or huge gas explosions. people stay inside for their own health and well being. we talked to police chief john timany who headed up the police departments in philadelphia and we talked to michael chertoff thi

and then a carjacking of a mercedes suv. that car was discovered with two suspects in it in watertown, massachusetts. that resulted in the pursuit in a very residential neighbor of watertown. an exchange of gunfire with two men who police say were extremely dangerous and one of them is still armed and dangerous in that mercedes. just goes to show how dangerous. several devices were thrown from this carjacked car and one of the suspects in that car were struck by a bullet. taken into custody, but we now know that he has deceased. >> now, the big thing is to search for the second suspect who is considered very dangerous. the quote from local police was, this is a terrorist. he came here to kill people. another quote from local police that the suspect is consistent with the suspect number two from the boston marathon bombings. he is in the, he is believed to be possibly in that community right now. residents are told not to answer their doors unless it is police and police do expect to go door-to-door and motorists in the area told not to p anybody up. let's listen to some sound from a local police off
